ellerCSFshunt

ellerCSFshunt is a cerebrospinal fluid shunt system developed for the diversion of CSF in hydrocephalus and related intracranial pressure disorders. It is used in both pediatric and adult patients to reduce ventricular dilation and symptomatic pressure.

The system typically consists of a ventricular catheter, a programmable valve, and distal catheter segments that terminate in a drainage site such as the peritoneal cavity, right atrium, or pleural space. Many configurations include an anti-siphon device to limit drainage when the patient is upright.

Indications include hydrocephalus due to congenital malformations, intraventricular hemorrhage, brain tumors, infection, trauma, or postoperative edema. Clinical use requires ongoing monitoring for complications such as infection, catheter obstruction, disconnection, malposition, over- or under-drainage, slit ventricle syndrome, and programmable valve malfunction. Regular follow-up and potential valve adjustments are common to optimize outcomes.
