ekwiwalentno

Ekwiwalentno is a term used to describe the property that two expressions, states, or objects are interchangeable in terms of meaning, value, or outcome within a given context. It is most often discussed in relation to equivalence and paraphrase, and it appears in logic, mathematics, linguistics, and computer science. The core idea is that substituting one item for another does not change the result under the same interpretation.

In logic and mathematics, two formulas A and B are ekwiwalentne when, for every interpretation, A and B share the same truth value; equivalently, A ↔ B is true in all cases. In algebra, two expressions are ekwiwalentne if they yield the same value for all inputs. In linguistics, two sentences are ekwiwalentne if they convey the same information content in a given context, i.e., if they function as paraphrases with identical referential force.

In computing, the notion supports substitution of equivalent expressions during optimization or refactoring, where the observable behavior remains unchanged. The standard Polish adverb describing such a relation is ekwiwalentnie; ekwiwalentno is encountered in some texts as a less common or nonstandard variant. The related noun ekwiwalentność denotes the property of being equivalent.
