Ekvatoriell is an adjective used in Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Norwegian, Danish) corresponding to the English term equatorial. It denotes relation to the equator, an imaginary line encircling Earth at zero degrees latitude, and is applied across geography, astronomy, climatology, geology and related fields to describe location, orientation or phenomena associated with the equatorial region.

In geography and climatology, ekvatoriell characterizes regions near the equator that experience minimal seasonal temperature variation, high solar insolation, heavy precipitation and often tropical rainforest ecosystems. In climate classification this usage corresponds to Af (tropical rainforest) and other tropical groups of the Köppen system, and to features such as the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

In astronomy and observational practice, ekvatoriell refers to equatorial coordinate systems and equatorial mounts for telescopes, both aligned with Earth’s rotational axis to simplify tracking of celestial objects. In geophysics, the term may describe the equatorial bulge—Earth’s slightly larger radius at the equator due to rotation—or the magnetic equator, where the geomagnetic field is horizontal.
