Edgeserverite is a rare aluminosilicate mineral described as a distinct species. The name derives from its characteristic occurrence near edge zones of ultramafic complexes and from its proposed potential as a durable dielectric material in electronic applications. It is categorized among silicate minerals with a layered structure that can form sheet-like arrangements, contributing to its distinctive habit and physical properties.

The idealized chemical formula of edgeserverite is given as (Fe2+,Mg)2Si4O12(OH)2, with substitutions of Al3+ for Fe2+ and Ti4+ for Si4+ leading to a range of compositions within the same species. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and commonly forms coarse, tabular to slender bladed crystals. The mineral has a hardness around 6 on the Mohs scale, a specific gravity in the 3.1–3.4 range, and a vitreous to submetallic luster. Its color is dark gray to black, with a gray streak, and it is translucent to opaque. Cleavage is indistinct, and the mineral exhibits moderate birefringence under magnification.

Occurrence and formation have so far been documented in hydrothermal veins within serpentinized ultramafic rocks. The type locality is the Edge Ridge region, with additional finds reported in several ultramafic belts globally. Edgeserverite is interpreted to form through metasomatic alteration driven by silica- and water-rich fluids at intermediate temperatures.

Uses and research status: edgeserverite is not yet mined commercially. It has attracted interest as a potential ceramic substrate and dielectric material due to its thermal stability and electrical properties, and is the subject of ongoing mineralogical and materials science study to assess practical viability.
