Ecetsavetilészter, also known as ethyl acetate, is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH3COOCH2CH3. It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic sweet, fruity odor, often described as nail polish remover. Ethyl acetate is widely used as a solvent due to its relatively low cost, low toxicity, and desirable volatility. It is found in many types of nail polish removers and paints, and is also used in glues and some varnishes.

Industrially, ethyl acetate is produced by the Fischer esterification of ethanol and acetic acid in the presence of an acid catalyst. It can also be synthesized through the Tishchenko reaction or by the oxidation of acetaldehyde. Its applications extend beyond solvents; it is also used in the decaffeination of coffee and tea, and as an artificial flavoring agent in food products, contributing to fruit flavors like strawberry and raspberry.

Ethyl acetate is flammable and should be handled with care, keeping it away from heat and open flames. While generally considered to have low toxicity, prolonged or repeated exposure to high concentrations of its vapor can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat. Ingestion can lead to gastrointestinal upset. Its environmental impact is considered relatively low, as it readily biodegrades in the environment.
