The term dénouement (pronounced day-noo-ay) is a French-derived word that refers to the final resolution or outcome of a narrative, particularly in literature, film, or theater. It is the concluding part of a story that typically ties up loose ends, reveals the outcome of conflicts, and provides closure. In classical storytelling structures, such as those outlined by Aristotle in Poetics, the dénouement often follows the climax, where the protagonist’s struggles culminate in a decisive moment. This resolution may involve revelations, moral lessons, or the resolution of central conflicts.
