duhovka

Duhovka is a term used in several Slavic languages, most commonly Russian and Ukrainian, to denote an oven. It refers to a heated chamber in a kitchen appliance used for baking, roasting, and warming food. In everyday language, духовка describes both electric and gas ovens, and the word is often linked to home cooking and baking practices.

Ovens come in several main types. Electric ovens may be freestanding units or built into kitchen cabinetry, and often include features such as programmable timers, multiple racks, and conventional or convection modes. Gas ovens heat from burners at the top or back, sometimes paired with a separate grill or broiler. Some models are combination units that include convection fans, steam functions, or self-cleaning capabilities. Modern ovens may also incorporate smart controls for remote operation.

Operation and usage. Typical oven temperatures for home cooking range from about 50°C for warming to around 250–300°C for roasting and baking. Preheating times vary by model and temperature setting. Ovens are used for breads, pastries, casseroles, meats, and vegetables, with convection modes providing more even heat distribution. Specialized ovens exist for pizza, steam-cooking, or high-heat searing.

Safety and maintenance. Use heat-resistant gloves and keep children away from hot doors. Ensure proper ventilation for gas ovens and check door seals regularly. Clean enamel interiors and replace worn gaskets or heating elements as needed. Regular maintenance extends oven life and preserves cooking performance.
