A dotområde, or dot area, is a term used in printing and graphic design to describe the density of ink dots on a surface. It's a way to quantify and control how much ink is applied, which directly impacts the color and tone of the final image. In traditional halftone printing, an image is broken down into tiny dots of varying sizes. A dotområde of 50% does not necessarily mean half the surface is covered in ink. Instead, it refers to the percentage of a single ink color's coverage within a given area. For example, a 50% cyan dotområde means that 50% of the area is covered by cyan ink dots, while the remaining 50% is the white of the paper.

The management of dotområde is crucial for achieving accurate color reproduction. Designers and pre-press technicians use tools and software to specify and manipulate dot areas for different colors.
