Doorvaarten is a Dutch term used in maritime and inland navigation to refer to the through passage of vessels through a waterway or channel. The word derives from door (through) and vaart (voyage, navigation). In practice, doorvaarten denote designated transit routes or corridors within harbors, estuaries, rivers, or canal networks that vessels are instructed to follow to ensure safe, efficient traffic flow and to protect shallow or sensitive areas. On nautical charts and in port regulations, doorvaarten are marked as standard routes; vessels deviating from them may require clearance or additional procedures.
