Diszkretizált is a Hungarian term that translates to "discretized" in English. It refers to the process of converting a continuous or analog signal or system into a discrete or digital form. This is a fundamental concept in digital signal processing, computer science, and engineering.

In essence, discretization involves sampling a continuous signal at regular intervals of time or space. The values of the signal at these discrete points are then represented by numerical values, often in a binary format. This process allows for the processing, storage, and transmission of information using digital devices.

For example, when a sound wave, which is a continuous analog signal, is recorded digitally, it is first discretized. Microphones capture the sound, and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) samples the signal's amplitude at very frequent intervals. These sampled values are then stored as a sequence of numbers. Similarly, images are often discretized into pixels, where each pixel represents a discrete point in space with a specific color value.

The choice of sampling rate and the number of bits used to represent each discrete value are crucial parameters in discretization. A higher sampling rate and more bits generally lead to a more accurate representation of the original continuous signal, but also result in larger data sizes. The inverse process of converting a discrete signal back to a continuous form is called reconstruction or interpolation.
