distamycin
Distamycin is a natural product antibiotic that belongs to the distamycin family of polyamide compounds. It is produced by actinomycete bacteria, including Streptomyces species, and exists as several related molecules, such as distamycin A and distamycin B. The compounds are short, peptide-like polyamides composed of N-methylpyrrole carboxamide units and are known for their ability to bind DNA in the minor groove.
Distamycin binds with high affinity to AT-rich regions of double-stranded DNA and recognizes consecutive adenine–thymine base
In laboratory research, distamycin is used as a DNA-binding ligand to study DNA structure and sequence-specific
Distamycin is not used as a clinical antibiotic due to toxicity and poor pharmacokinetic properties. Several
