direktör

Direktør is a title used in Danish and Norwegian to denote the person who leads an organization, company, agency, or institution. The term signifies an executive leader and is roughly equivalent to CEO or managing director in English. It is distinct from instruktør, which in Danish refers to a film, theatre, or stage director.

In corporate and organizational contexts, the direktør is responsible for setting strategic direction, overseeing daily operations, managing finances and personnel, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. The direktør often chairs the top management team and reports to a board of directors or a supervisory body. In many companies the chief executive is titled administrerende direktør (often abbreviated adm. dir.), or konsernsjef in some contexts; a direktør may also denote a senior manager or head of a major department within a larger organization.

In public administration, the term is used for high-level leaders of agencies or institutions, sometimes labeled generaldirektør or administrerende direktør depending on country and government level.
