However, conventional dMRI may not be sensitive enough to detect subtle changes in tissue structure, particularly in early stages of disease or injury. This might involve using more complex biophysical models that go beyond simple diffusion coefficients, such as models that account for different diffusion compartments (e.g., intra-axonal, extra-axonal) or incorporate information about tissue anisotropy.
