diderm

Diderm, also known as Euphrasia montana, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Orobanchaceae. It is a perennial plant, native to Europe and western Asia, commonly found growing in alpine meadows and rocky outcrops.

The plant is characterized by its prostrate stems and slender leaves, often displaying a grayish-green color. Diderm produces white, pink, or bi-colored flowers in the early summer months, composed of four pointed petals, a yellow or green center, and tubular shape. While its flowers are relatively small, they are often borne in clusters, contributing to the overall visual appeal of the plant.

Diderm has been observed being parasitic, obtaining its nutrients by connecting to the roots of other plants. The exact relationship between the host and parasite can fluctuate, sometimes leading to some degree of control over the host's growth. Among studies, diderm's effect on its host plants has been described as slightly affecting growth but maintaining foliage density.

The plant has some proposed medicinal applications, primarily based on the muscle-relaxant properties of its components. However, research on its properties is limited, making formal recommendations for use or its effects on human health problematic.
