Diaphragm actuated refers to a mechanism or device that is operated by a flexible membrane, known as a diaphragm, which is moved by pressure differences. This movement is then used to control or generate motion in a system. The diaphragm typically acts as a flexible barrier separating two chambers. When the pressure in one chamber increases relative to the other, the diaphragm is pushed, causing it to flex or distort. This physical deformation is the driving force behind the actuation.

These devices are commonly found in a wide range of applications. In pneumatic and hydraulic systems, diaphragm actuators are used to operate valves. The diaphragm is connected to a valve stem, and pressure applied to one side of the diaphragm causes it to move, thereby opening or closing the valve. They are also utilized in pumps, where the diaphragm's oscillation creates a pumping action to move fluids. In musical instruments like accordions and harmonicas, diaphragms (reeds) vibrate due to airflow, producing sound. Furthermore, in automotive systems, diaphragm actuators can be found in brake boosters and clutches to assist in applying force.
