The diafragmapomp, also known as a diaphragm pump, is a positive displacement pump that uses a flexible diaphragm to move fluid. This diaphragm acts as a barrier between the fluid being pumped and the mechanical components of the pump. The diaphragm is typically made of rubber, plastic, or a composite material.

The operation of a diafragmapomp involves a cyclical motion. During the suction stroke, the diaphragm moves away from the pump chamber, creating a vacuum that draws fluid into the chamber through an inlet valve. As the diaphragm moves back towards the pump chamber during the discharge stroke, it displaces the fluid, forcing it out through an outlet valve. Check valves are crucial to ensure unidirectional flow of the fluid.

Diafragmapomps can be powered mechanically, hydraulically, or pneumatically. Pneumatically actuated diaphragm pumps, often referred to as air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps, are common. These pumps utilize compressed air to move the diaphragms back and forth.

These pumps are known for their ability to handle a wide range of fluids, including corrosive, abrasive, and shear-sensitive materials. They can also operate dry without damage, a feature that distinguishes them from many other pump types. Their simple design and lack of rotating seals make them relatively low maintenance. Applications for diafragmapomps are diverse, found in industries such as chemical processing, wastewater treatment, mining, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. They are often used for transferring chemicals, slurries, and viscous liquids.
