detaljerter

Detaljerter is not a standard form in Norwegian or Danish. In most Nordic languages, the verb to detail is formed from the stem detalj- with the infinitive detaljere, giving present tense detaljerer, past tense detaljerte, and past participle detaljert in Norwegian. Danish uses a similar system, with detaljeret as the past participle and present forms such as detaljerer. As a result, detaljerter is generally regarded as a misspelling or a nonstandard/archaic variant rather than a correct, widely recognized form.

Etymology and related forms. The term derives from detalj, meaning a detail, itself from the French détail. The common Norwegian verb is detaljere, built from detalj plus the verb suffix -ere, while the related Danish verb follows a parallel pattern. The standard inflected forms are used across journalism, technical writing, and academic prose to mean “to detail” or “to provide detailed information.”

Usage and examples. In Norwegian, correct usage includes: Vi må detaljere planen nøye. (We must detail the plan carefully.) Hun har detaljert rapporten. (She has detailed the report.) Planen er detaljeret/genein Norwegian, Planen er detaljert. In Danish: Det er nødvendigt at detaljere planen. Han har detaljeret planen. Planen er detaljeret. These forms are preferred in formal and standard prose; “detaljerter” would be unusual and considered nonstandard.

Regional and editorial notes. If encountered, detaljerter is most likely a misspelling, a typographical error, or a dialectal variant not supported by standard dictionaries. When in doubt, replace with detaljere, detaljerer, detaljeret, or detaljeret according to the language and tense.
