Destàndards is a term used in Catalan to describe the reduction, relaxation, or abandonment of established standards within a system. The word combines des- (a prefix indicating reversal) with estàndard, standard. In discourse, destàndards refers to moves away from universal, formal norms toward more flexible, context-dependent guidelines.

The concept appears across domains such as language, technology, and public policy. In sociolinguistics, destàndards can describe shifts away from prescriptive language norms toward greater linguistic variety. In technology and governance, it refers to processes that de-emphasize centralized standards in favor of modular, interoperable, or locally adapted practices.

Mechanisms include deregulation, devolution of decision-making, modular design, and the adoption of voluntary or soft-law guidelines. The effects are mixed: there can be greater adaptability, local relevance, and reduced compliance costs, but also fragmentation, interoperability problems, and concerns about safety, quality, and consumer protection.
