descansad

Descansad is the second person plural imperative of the Spanish verb descansar. It is used to tell a group of people (vosotros) in informal Spain to rest. The literal translation is “you all rest” or “rest for a moment.” This form is characteristic of Spain and is not commonly used in most of Latin America, where the vosotros form is not standard and usted/ustedes forms prevail.

Grammatically, descansad follows the regular -ar verb pattern for the affirmative imperative in the vosotros form. The negative imperative uses the present subjunctive for vosotros (for example, no descanséis), but the affirmative form remains descansad. Pronunciation is roughly des-KAN-sad, with the stress on the CAN syllable.
