Depárterements are administrative divisions within a state that function as an intermediate tier between regional authorities and local municipalities. They are designed to coordinate service delivery, planning, and development at a scale between large regions and small towns, enabling economies of scale while preserving local responsiveness.

The term depárterements is a stylized variant of départment and is not an official designation in most real-world governance systems. In actual practice, the closest real-world analog is the département (France), a subdivision that combines administrative and territorial duties. Some countries use departments, districts, or provinces to fulfil similar roles.

A depárterement would typically be governed by an elected council and, in many models, a chief administrator or prefect appointed by the central government. Core functions would often include infrastructure and transport planning, education support, health and social services coordination, regional economic development, environmental regulation, and budget management. Revenue usually comes from a mix of local taxes, state or national subsidies, and grants. It would interact with municipalities and higher authorities; in unitary states it is often state-delegated, while in federal systems it may align with a state or province while retaining some autonomy.
