Demagnetiseringen is a process that reduces or eliminates the magnetic properties of a material. This can be achieved through several methods, primarily involving heating the material above its Curie temperature or subjecting it to a strong alternating magnetic field that is gradually reduced.

Heating a ferromagnetic material above its Curie temperature causes the thermal energy to overcome the magnetic alignment of the domains. Once cooled below this temperature in the absence of an external magnetic field, the material will lose its residual magnetism. This method is often used in manufacturing and repair processes.

Alternatively, demagnetization can be accomplished by exposing the object to a strong alternating magnetic field. This field causes the magnetic domains within the material to align and then randomize as the field's polarity rapidly changes. If this alternating field is slowly and smoothly reduced to zero, the magnetic domains are left in a largely random orientation, resulting in a demagnetized state. This technique is commonly employed for tools, electronic components, and even recorded media to remove unwanted magnetic traces. The effectiveness of demagnetization depends on the material's properties, the strength of the demagnetizing field, and the specific method employed.
