Decoherencei is a term occasionally used in theoretical discussions to denote a particular manifestation or regime of quantum decoherence, typically associated with a system’s loss of coherence due to environmental interaction under specific correlation structures. It is not a standard term in the mainstream literature, where the general concept of decoherence is usually employed.

In discussions that adopt decoherencei, the phenomenon is described as arising from system–environment entanglement and the subsequent tracing out of environmental degrees of freedom. The system’s reduced density operator ρ_S(t) = Tr_E [|Ψ(t)⟩⟨Ψ(t)|] loses coherence in a preferred (pointer) basis as off-diagonal elements decay. Decoherencei regimes may exhibit particular features depending on the environmental spectrum, coupling strength, and temperature, and can include non-Markovian or non-exponential behavior of coherence decay in specific models.

Distinguishing features attributed to decoherencei, when used, include emphasis on structured or correlated environments that produce nonstandard coherence loss, or scenarios where partial recoherence or time-dependent revival effects appear due to persistent system–environment correlations. Some authors treat decoherencei as highlighting the dependence of observed decoherence on the measurement or tracing procedure, rather than as a separate physical mechanism.

Implications for quantum information science follow standard concerns about decoherence: coherence times, error correction thresholds, and fidelity limits in quantum communication. The term decoherencei remains informal and is primarily used to illustrate nuanced or regime-dependent aspects of decoherence rather than as a distinct, widely adopted concept.
