decalogus
Decalogus is a small genus of amphibious reptiles classified within the family Sphenodontidae, order Squamata. First described by the herpetologist Dr. L. A. Petrov in 1987, the genus contains two recognized species: Decalogus longirostris and Decalogus brevicauda. The type species, D. longirostris, was discovered in the karstic limestone outcrops of southeastern Anatolia, while D. brevicauda has been reported in the isolated limestone hills of the Aegean Peninsula.
Morphologically, members of Decalogus are characterized by their elongated, laterally flattened tails and substantially reduced limbs,
Ecologically, Decalogus species occupy a narrow ecological niche within the limestone karst ecosystems, where they inhabit
The conservation status of Decalogus remains poorly understood due to limited field studies; nevertheless, the restricted
