dUrberville

dUrberville is a small municipality in the province of Valoria in the northern region of Yamhale. The town had a population of 2,347 according to the most recent census conducted in 2023. It lies at an elevation of 372 metres above sea level, approximately 15 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital, Arendale. Coordinates for dUrberville are 35°12′N 48°27′E.

Geographically, dUrberville is situated in a gently rolling valley surrounded by mixed deciduous and coniferous forest. The climate is temperate with mild summers and cold, snowy winters. The Keld River runs through the town, providing water for irrigation and powering a small hydroelectric plant established in 1974. The surrounding area is known for its fertile loam, which supports a local horticulture sector specializing in berries and root vegetables.

The history of dUrberville dates back to 1837 when the village was founded by the Urber family, whose members were early settlers in the region. In 1901 the town was officially chartered and named dUrberville in honour of its founders. It played a minor role during the Yamhale War of Independence in 1928 when local volunteers defended the town against advancing forces, an event commemorated annually on the third Saturday of May.

The local economy is dominated by agriculture and small-scale manufacturing. The most prominent industry is the production of artisanal cheese, which has gained recognition in regional markets. In recent years, dUrberville has promoted eco-tourism, with guided tours of the Keld River Gorge attracting visitors from across the country.

Culturally, the town hosts an annual Harvest Festival in late September, celebrating the harvest season with music, dance, and traditional foods. The primary language spoken is Yamhalean, but a significant minority speaks the neighboring language of Kaldish. dUrberville is also the birthplace of noted environmental scientist Dr. Elena Vark, who contributed to the development of sustainable forestry practices in the Valoria province.
