czesto (often written as często in Polish or často in Czech) is an adverb meaning “often” or “frequently.” It is used to indicate the regularity or frequency of an action or event. The word derives from the Proto-Slavic root často, which appears in many Slavic languages with similar meanings: in Russian it is често, in Serbian and Croatian it is često, and in Slovak it is často. The common root is connected to the Slavic word for “time” or “hour,” suggesting the idea of repeated occurrence over time. In contemporary usage, czesto is largely used in schriftlichen texts or formal contexts; in everyday spoken Polish, the more colloquial form is często. The adverb can be combined with other grammatical elements, for example czesto pojawia się (it often appears) or czesto wyjeżdża (he travels often).

In literary Polish, czesto appears in older texts and in idiomatic expressions.
