Saint Cyprian of Carthage was a prominent Christian bishop and theologian who lived during the 3rd century AD. Born around 200 in North Africa, he was originally a pagan rhetorician who converted to Christianity around 246 AD. Following his conversion, he quickly rose through the church hierarchy and became Bishop of Carthage in 249 AD.

Cyprian is best known for his writings on Christian doctrine and church administration. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Decius, he temporarily fled but later returned to lead his congregation. He emphasized the importance of church unity and the authority of bishops. His work "The Unity of the Catholic Church" argues that the church is one indivisible entity.

The theologian also wrote extensively on prayer, almsgiving, and Christian living. He was martyred in 258 AD during the persecution of Emperor Valerian. Cyprian's theological contributions significantly influenced early Christian thought and church governance. His feast day is celebrated on September 16 in the Western Church and August 31 in the Eastern Church.
