Csontelnyúlások, often translated as bone spurs or osteophytes, are smooth, hard bony growths that can develop on bones. They are typically a consequence of the body's natural response to damage, inflammation, or increased stress on a joint. While the term "spur" might suggest a sharp protrusion, csontelnyúlások are usually rounded and can vary significantly in size.

These bony growths commonly occur at the edges of joints where cartilage has deteriorated, such as in osteoarthritis. The body attempts to repair the damaged area by laying down new bone, which can manifest as csontelnyúlások. They can also form on vertebrae, contributing to conditions like spinal stenosis. In some cases, csontelnyúlások can be asymptomatic, meaning they cause no pain or discomfort and are often discovered incidentally during medical imaging for other reasons.

However, when csontelnyúlások grow large enough to press on surrounding nerves or soft tissues, they can lead to pain, stiffness, reduced range of motion, and other symptoms. The location and size of the csontelnyúlások determine the specific symptoms experienced. Treatment focuses on managing the underlying cause, such as arthritis, and alleviating symptoms through pain medication, physical therapy, or, in severe cases, surgical removal.
