Csiszolópászták, often translated as polishing pastes or compounds, are abrasive materials suspended in a carrier medium. They are used for a variety of surface finishing applications, from removing scratches and imperfections to achieving a high-gloss shine. The abrasive particles within the paste can vary in size and composition, depending on the intended use and the material being worked on. Common abrasives include aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and diamond particles.

The carrier medium, which can be oil-based, water-based, or wax-based, serves to hold the abrasive particles in place, lubricate the surface, and help distribute the abrasive evenly. Different carrier types are chosen based on compatibility with the workpiece material and the desired finish. For instance, oil-based pastes are often used for metals, while water-based pastes might be preferred for plastics or glass to avoid staining.

Csiszolópászták are applied to a surface using an applicator, which can be a cloth, felt pad, or a specialized buffing wheel. The friction generated during the polishing process causes the abrasive particles to abrade the surface, smoothing it down and removing irregularities. The fineness of the abrasive particles determines the final finish; finer pastes are used for achieving a mirror-like polish, while coarser pastes are used for removing more significant damage. These pastes are widely employed in industries such as automotive, jewelry making, metalworking, and plastics manufacturing.
