Corrosierijke is a Dutch adjective used to describe substances, environments, or materials that promote rapid or extensive corrosion of other materials. The term combines corrosie (corrosion) with rijk (rich or abundant) and is commonly used in materials science, chemistry, and safety documentation to characterize aggressive conditions.

Corrosierijke conditions are defined by a combination of chemical aggressiveness, temperature, moisture, and the susceptible properties of the material. Factors include acidity or alkalinity, presence of aggressive anions such as chlorides, oxidizing agents, and gaseous pollutants; elevated temperatures and humidity accelerate corrosion reactions. The resulting corrosion rate depends on material composition, microstructure, surface condition, and protective films.

Typical examples of corrosierijke environments are acidic atmospheres, seawater or salt spray, industrial atmospheres containing sulfur compounds, chlorinated solvents, and oxidizing gases. Metals commonly affected include carbon steel and certain alloys, which can experience uniform corrosion, pitting, or crevice corrosion under corrosierijke exposure. Some materials—such as nickel-based alloys, titanium with stable oxide layers, and properly chosen stainless steels—show higher resistance but are not immune in highly corrosive settings.

Engineering practice addresses corrosierijke exposure through material selection, protective coatings, passivation, cathodic protection, and environmental control. Standards and testing methods, including accelerated corrosion tests, help compare material performance under corrosierijke conditions.
