Coronarkarografi is a medical term that refers to the process of imaging the coronary arteries. These arteries supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. The procedure is a type of cardiac catheterization, which involves inserting a thin, flexible tube called a catheter into a blood vessel, usually in the groin or arm, and guiding it to the heart.

Once the catheter is in place, a special contrast dye is injected into the coronary arteries. This dye makes the arteries visible on X-ray images. A series of X-ray pictures are taken as the dye flows through the arteries, revealing any blockages, narrowings, or other abnormalities.

Coronarkarografi is primarily used to diagnose and assess the severity of coronary artery disease, also known as atherosclerosis. This condition occurs when plaque builds up inside the arteries, restricting blood flow to the heart. The information obtained from the procedure helps cardiologists determine the best course of treatment, which may include lifestyle changes, medication, angioplasty, or bypass surgery.
