coralwood
Coralwood, also known as Erythrophleum fordii, is a tropical tree native to West Africa, particularly found in the coastal regions of Nigeria, Cameroon, and Gabon. It is valued for its distinctive red or orange wood, which is highly prized in the woodworking industry. The tree can grow up to 30 meters tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 meters. Its wood is known for its durability, fine grain, and attractive color, making it suitable for furniture, cabinetry, and decorative items. Coralwood is also used in traditional medicine for its supposed anti-inflammatory and antimalarial properties. However, overharvesting and habitat destruction have led to a decline in its population, and it is now listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this valuable and endangered species.
