Coralberry refers to plants in the genus Symphoricarpos. This genus belongs to the Caprifoliaceae family and is native to North America. The most commonly known species is Symphoricarpos orbiculatus, also called coralberry or Indian currant. These are deciduous shrubs known for their small, berry-like fruits that persist into winter.

The fruits are typically pink to red in color, resembling coral, hence the common name. While visually attractive, these berries are generally not palatable for human consumption and are primarily food for birds and other wildlife. Coralberry plants are often used in landscaping for their ornamental value, particularly for their winter interest provided by the persistent fruits and their ability to tolerate a variety of soil conditions and light levels.

Species within the Symphoricarpos genus are generally low-maintenance and adaptable. They can be found in a range of habitats, from woodlands to open fields. Other members of the genus include snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus), which has white berries, and wolfberry (Symphoricarpos occidentalis). The growth habit of coralberry plants is typically bushy, and they can spread via suckering, forming dense thickets. Their inconspicuous flowers bloom in late spring or early summer, followed by the development of the characteristic berries.
