Continentalitás is a term used in geography and climatology to describe the degree to which a location's climate is influenced by its distance from a large body of water, such as an ocean. Locations with high continentalitás are far from oceans and experience greater temperature extremes between seasons, with hotter summers and colder winters. They also tend to have lower annual precipitation and less humidity compared to coastal areas.

The presence of a large ocean moderates temperatures. Water heats up and cools down more slowly than land, so coastal regions experience less dramatic temperature fluctuations. This maritime influence leads to milder winters and cooler summers, as well as higher humidity and more consistent rainfall throughout the year.

The concept of continentalitás is crucial for understanding regional climate patterns. For instance, the interior of continents, like Siberia or the central United States, exhibits high continentalitás. In contrast, coastal areas such as Western Europe or the Pacific Northwest of North America have low continentalitás due to the moderating effect of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, respectively.
