Conducted immunity tests, often referred to as conducted immunity testing, are a crucial part of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing. These tests are designed to evaluate how electronic equipment behaves when subjected to conducted disturbances, which are unwanted electrical signals that travel along power or signal lines. The primary goal is to ensure that a device does not emit excessive conducted disturbances that could interfere with other equipment, and also that it can tolerate a certain level of incoming disturbances without malfunctioning.

The testing typically involves injecting various types of disturbances onto the power supply and signal cables of the equipment under test (EUT). These disturbances can include voltage fluctuations, surges, transients, and radio-frequency (RF) signals. The injected disturbances are standardized according to international and regional regulations, such as those from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). For instance, IEC 61000-4 series of standards covers many aspects of immunity testing.

During the test, the performance of the EUT is monitored. Any degradation in performance, such as unexpected shutdowns, data corruption, or operational errors, indicates a failure to meet the required immunity levels. The severity and type of injected disturbance are systematically increased until the EUT either passes or fails. Successful completion of conducted immunity tests is often a prerequisite for a product to be sold in many markets, as it demonstrates a level of robustness and interoperability within its intended electromagnetic environment.
