Computeyksiköt, meaning "computer units" in Finnish, refers to the fundamental building blocks and concepts used to measure and quantify information and computational processes. These units are essential for understanding computer performance, data storage capacity, and network speeds.

The most common computeyksiköt relate to data storage and size. The smallest unit is the bit, which can represent either a 0 or a 1. Eight bits form a byte, which is typically the smallest addressable unit of memory. Larger units are derived from these, often using powers of two. Kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), and terabytes (TB) are frequently used to describe file sizes, memory capacity, and hard drive storage. While historically these were based on powers of 1024 (2^10), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) introduced binary prefixes like kibibyte (KiB), mebibyte (MiB), gibibyte (GiB), and tebibyte (TiB) to distinguish these from decimal prefixes (powers of 1000) used in other contexts, although decimal prefixes are still widely used in practice for storage.

Processor speed is often measured in Hertz (Hz), specifically megahertz (MHz) and gigahertz (GHz), indicating the number of cycles a processor can execute per second. Network speeds, such as internet connection bandwidth, are commonly measured in bits per second (bps), kilobits per second (kbps), megabits per second (Mbps), and gigabits per second (Gbps).
