A list comprehension, for instance, is structured as follows: new_list = [expression for item in iterable if condition]. It iterates through an iterable, applies an optional condition to each item, and then transforms the qualifying items using an expression to form a new list. Similarly, set comprehensions use curly braces `{}` and dictionary comprehensions use curly braces with a key-value pair structure ` {key_expression: value_expression for item in iterable if condition}`.

The primary advantage of comprehensions is their conciseness. They often reduce the amount of code needed to achieve the same result as a traditional for loop, making the code easier to read and write.
