Coldresistant is an adjective describing the ability of an organism, object, or system to withstand or operate at low temperatures. In biology, it often refers to organisms that survive freezing conditions or maintain metabolic activity in cold environments. In engineering and materials science, it describes substances and components that retain functional properties when exposed to cold.

Biological cold resistance arises through strategies such as antifreeze proteins or glycoproteins, accumulation of solutes that lower freezing points, adjustments to membrane composition, and regulated gene expression that enhances stress tolerance. Freeze avoidance keeps the organism from freezing, while freeze tolerance allows survival after ice formation. In materials, cold resistance relates to retained toughness, stiffness, and lubricity; important phenomena include the ductile-to-brittle transition and the glass transition. Some materials, such as certain steels and ceramics, maintain strength at cryogenic temperatures, while polymers and lubricants are designed to function with reduced viscosity and minimal embrittlement.

Assessment and measurement of cold resistance involve determining minimum operating temperatures, impact testing at low temperatures, and cryoscopic or thermal analysis for materials. Applications span agriculture (breeding for cold hardiness zones), electronics and aerospace (operating ranges and reliability), and industrial processes that require cryogenic storage or operation. The term is relative and context-dependent; a product described as coldresistant may still have limits under extreme or prolonged exposure, and tradeoffs may occur between cold resistance and other properties such as elasticity, energy efficiency, or growth performance.
