coalfields
Coalfields are areas of land that contain significant deposits of coal. These regions have historically been, and in many cases continue to be, sites of extensive coal mining. The formation of coalfields is a geological process that occurred over millions of years, primarily during the Carboniferous period, when vast amounts of plant matter accumulated in swampy environments and were subsequently buried and subjected to heat and pressure.
The distribution of coalfields is global, with major deposits found in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
