chytejí

Chytejí is a fictional or hypothetical linguistic term used in some language-learning exercises and world-building contexts to illustrate nonstandard verb-form possibilities in Czech-like languages. It is not a standard form in modern Czech, and its inclusion in real-language references is limited to instructional or creative works.

The concept is typically described as a possible present-tense form, associated with a verb root related to catching, such as chyta- or chytat. In these demonstrations, chytejí is shown as a third-person plural present form built with a suffix pattern resembling certain dialectal endings, though this exact form is not attested as a normative Czech conjugation. The purpose is to explore how dialects or fictional grammars might modify standard endings and stem patterns.

Usage in examples is illustrative rather than prescriptive. A sample sentence in such contexts might appear as chytejí ryby v řece (they catch fish in the river), used to discuss pronunciation, stress, or historical orthography rather than to prescribe correct everyday Czech. In standard Czech, the corresponding present-tense form for the verb chytat is usually chytají.
