They are endoparasites, meaning they live inside the digestive tract of their hosts, which can include a wide range of animals, from fish and birds to mammals, including humans. Tapeworms have a segmented body, typically consisting of a scolex (head) equipped with suckers or hooks for attachment to the host's intestinal wall, a neck, and a series of proglottids. These proglottids are reproductive units, each containing both male and female reproductive organs. As proglottids mature, they fill with eggs and are eventually shed from the host's body, either individually or in chains.

The life cycle of cestodaparaziták is often complex, involving one or more intermediate hosts. Humans can become infected by ingesting undercooked meat containing tapeworm larvae, or through consuming food or water contaminated with tapeworm eggs. Symptoms of tapeworm infection can vary depending on the species and the location of the parasite in the body, but may include abdominal pain, nausea, weight loss, and digestive disturbances. In some cases, tapeworm larvae can migrate to other tissues, causing more serious conditions like cysticercosis. Diagnosis is usually made through examination of stool samples for eggs or proglottids, or by imaging techniques if larvae have formed cysts. Treatment typically involves antiparasitic medications.
