They offer high capacitance values for their size but are polarized, meaning they must be connected with the correct polarity.

Tantalum capacitors are a type of electrolytic capacitor that uses tantalum, a metal with excellent dielectric properties, as the anode. They provide high capacitance density and stable performance but are also polarized and can be more expensive. Film capacitors employ thin plastic films, such as polyester or polypropylene, as the dielectric. They are non-polarized, offer good stability and low leakage current, and are suitable for various applications.

Supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors, are a class of electrochemical capacitors that bridge the gap between conventional capacitors and batteries. They store energy electrostatically or through a rapid faradaic reaction, offering much higher capacitance values than other types and the ability to charge and discharge rapidly. Other less common types include mica capacitors, paper capacitors, and variable capacitors, each with specific advantages for particular uses.
