Campus cabling, or campusbekabeling, refers to the structured cabling system that interconnects buildings within a campus environment such as a university, college, or corporate campus. It provides the physical medium for data, voice, and video services across the site and supports technological growth over time.

The system typically splits into backbone (vertical) cabling that links buildings and major aggregation points, and horizontal (lateral) cabling that runs from telecommunications rooms to individual work areas. Distribution rooms, equipment rooms, and a central data center or core network form the core of the layout.

Common components include fiber optic and copper cabling, patch panels, jacks and outlets, conduit, cable trays, and grounding/earthing. Documentation, labeling, and certification are essential to ensure performance and maintainability. Modern campuses increasingly use multimode or single-mode fiber alongside Cat6/6A copper.

Standards such as ISO/IEC 11801 and national or regional equivalents (and ANSI/TIA-568 in North America) guide cabling topology, performance, and testing. Pathways and spaces planning (for ducts, risers, and rooms), firestop, and physical security are also addressed. The design aims for reliability, scalability, and ease of future upgrades.

Deployment requires coordinated procurement, professional installation, and periodic testing to verify that cables meet current performance. As sites expand or upgrade to higher speeds, the campus cabling infrastructure is typically upgraded or re-terminated rather than replaced entirely, reflecting its role as a long-term foundation of the network.
