A byggnadsställning, commonly known in English as scaffolding, is a temporary structure used to support people and materials during construction, maintenance, or repair of buildings and other structures. It provides a safe and stable platform at height, allowing workers to access areas that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to reach.

These structures are typically made from modular components, often steel or aluminum, which can be assembled and disassembled relatively quickly. Key elements include vertical standards, horizontal ledgers, and diagonal bracing to ensure stability. Platforms, known as planks or decks, are laid across the ledgers to form the working surface. Guardrails and toe boards are essential safety features to prevent falls.

The design and erection of scaffolding are subject to strict safety regulations to minimize risks of collapse, falls, or material dropping.
