Bronkenmerk is a term used in Dutch archival science and information management to denote a feature that reveals the origin or provenance of a document, data item, or artefact. The word combines bron (source) and kenmerk (feature or mark). In practice, bronkenmerken can be intrinsic, such as content clues, handwriting, watermarks, or internal metadata, or extrinsic, such as physical stamps, library or archive catalog records, and a documented custody history.
