It is not a single standardized quantity; several operational definitions capture the idea of how strong a bond is in a given context. Generally, bondlevel combines energy, order, and electron-density characteristics into a single metric.

A common definition is the ratio of a bond's dissociation energy to its bond order, D0/n, giving a scale that increases with energy but accounts for multiplicity.
