Bolygófelület is a Hungarian term that translates to "planetary surface" in English. It refers to the outer solid or liquid layer of a planet or a similar celestial body. This surface is the interface between the body's interior and its atmosphere or surrounding space.

The characteristics of a bolygófelület vary greatly depending on the type of celestial body. For terrestrial planets like Earth, the surface is composed of rocks and minerals, shaped by geological processes such as volcanism, tectonics, and erosion. Earth's surface also features diverse landforms like mountains, plains, and oceans.

Gas giants, such as Jupiter and Saturn, do not possess a distinct solid surface in the same way as terrestrial planets. Instead, their "surface" is often defined as the level at which atmospheric pressure reaches a certain value, typically one bar, which is similar to Earth's atmospheric pressure at sea level. Below this level, the gas gradually transitions into a liquid or metallic state due to increasing pressure and temperature.

Other celestial bodies, like moons and dwarf planets, also have their own unique bolygófelület. For example, icy moons might have surfaces covered in frozen water or other volatiles, while rocky moons resemble the surfaces of terrestrial planets. Studying planetary surfaces provides crucial insights into the formation, evolution, and composition of these celestial bodies, as well as the potential for past or present life.
