Blindtester is a term used to describe a person who participates in or conducts blind testing, a methodology in which the tester is unaware of certain information about the items under evaluation to prevent bias. The aim is to ensure that judgments about quality, performance, or preference are driven by observable attributes rather than expectations or branding.

Blind testing is widely used across fields such as consumer product testing, sensory evaluation, software quality assurance, and usability studies. In taste tests and sensory panels, participants sample products without knowing brand names, formulations, or labels. In software and hardware testing, testers evaluate features or performance without access to implementation details or internal test data. In clinical trials and related fields, single-blind or double-blind designs are used to reduce placebo effects and observer bias.

Typical methods include blinding through coded samples, randomized item presentation, and controlled testing environments. Blinding can be single-blind (tester unaware of which item is which) or double-blind (neither tester nor administrator knows the mapping). An independent administrator may handle randomization and decoding after data collection.

Limitations include the possibility that blinding is imperfect when items have salient differences, the cost and complexity of maintaining blinding, and the risk of bias in recruitment or analysis. Proper protocols and training are essential to minimize these risks.
