Bizonal refers to a two-zone arrangement used in the post-World War II occupation of Germany, where the British and American zones were merged for economic administration and policy. As a noun, it also describes the two-zone system itself; as an adjective, it characterizes policies, institutions, or frameworks organized along that two-zone principle.

Historically, Germany was divided into Allied occupation zones after its defeat in 1945. In 1947, the United States and the United Kingdom merged their zones to form the Bizone, creating a single economic and administrative unit to coordinate reconstruction, trade, and currency reform. The French zone remained separate, a distinction that persisted until the broader Western zones were later integrated. The term is often encountered in discussions of the early Cold War era in contrast to the later “Trizone” concept, which included the French zone as well and laid the groundwork for the creation of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949.
