Biometabolism refers to the sum of all chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life. These processes include breaking down nutrients from food to generate energy, synthesizing essential molecules like proteins and nucleic acids, and eliminating waste products. Biometabolism encompasses both catabolism, the breakdown of complex molecules into simpler ones with the release of energy, and anabolism, the synthesis of complex molecules from simpler ones, which requires energy.
