Biogazit is a term that refers to biogas, a gaseous fuel, produced from the anaerobic digestion of organic matter. This organic matter can include animal manure, sewage sludge, agricultural waste, and food waste. The digestion process is carried out by microorganisms in an oxygen-free environment, breaking down the complex organic compounds into simpler ones. The primary components of biogas are methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), with smaller amounts of other gases like hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and nitrogen (N2). The exact composition can vary depending on the feedstock and digestion conditions.

Biogas can be used in several ways. It can be burned directly for heating or cooking, or it can be used to generate electricity and heat through combined heat and power (CHP) systems. For use in natural gas networks or as a vehicle fuel, biogas is typically upgraded by removing carbon dioxide and other impurities, a process often referred to as biomethane production. This upgrading increases the methane content, making it comparable to pipeline natural gas. The anaerobic digestion process also produces a nutrient-rich digestate, which can be used as a fertilizer. This makes biogazit a form of renewable energy with the added benefit of waste management and nutrient recycling.
